It's fine to be stumped on a question, but not okay to pause in order to figure out what other lie you have to not untell with your next utterance, When the world can see the calculus of dishonesty cross your face, you're a gonner.
It's the same look when an actor momentarily forgets his line, or panics for a second when forced to ad-lib. Momentarily out-of-the groove.
it's a tell.

Oh but it was so much better than just that. Little Dana got smacked down hard on all sides during that show -- it's all the more satisfying because he's such an abrasive asshole.
On the immigration thing: among the Republicans, he's more on the racist tip than the corporatist one, though the two aren't mutually exclusive.
He tried to pull that bullshit of "Oh, yes, I totally agree with you that employers of illegal aliens need to be held accountable also..." -- the empty rhetorical nod before he tries to attack his favorite, the soft target: the immigrants themselves. But nobody, least of all Maher, would let him get away with it.
Sweet.
I have got to watch that episode tonight.
