Post 500 - Farewell Blogger

[updated about an hour later]

Unlike a certain long running animated TV-series, I successfully caught my 500th post.

But it is a sad post. This episode, instead of being a greatest hits, is called:

Blogger Beta sucks ass (U: Still the case - but specific login problem worked around)

For several reasons, not the least of which are the limits inherent Blogger and blogging

- This weblog is now dead -

kaput, finis, fade to black.

thanks for the memories.

I'll let you know if I move.

Bloger Beta

Looks just like the old blogger. How is this not v 1.4 or something?

anyhow, next post is something special - and because of that it may be a little while - as I have a lot on my plate in the next few weeks. I'm sorry internet, I may have to ignore you a while.

Housekeeping and Zen

In an effort to screw with Blogger alpha for as long as I can, I'm not changing any more settings here, and I'm just posting instead. Call me a rebel, or something.

Also, sadly, someone has decided to post poorly written pornography spam in my comments section, so for a while, we're going with password verified blogger accounts only for posting. I want to believe it's a spambot, but I don't. Let the coward leave a trail. I'm not dealing with post-by-post verification.

Yes, it's annoying, and i use the password becuase no, i don't know how to switch to another publishing platform. (I'm sure it's possible, and easy, I don't feel up for the hassle of moving the archives just now).

Housekeeping now complete, your "moment of zen":

Breaking my own arm

Well, the interview went swimmingly, and in the process of contacting an old reference I scared up some nice freelance work. Yay me.

So, it looks as though I'll be doing the Same Old Consulting Job (Mk. IV), except with more travel and for a couple grand more than at the job I was just fired from. I've never been a big traveler, but I've felt the bug of late.

Oh, and irony of ironies, the guy interviewing me was also once fired by my recent boss, but 10 years ago, as I described the experience he was finishing my sentences.

Did i mention I found this job listed on craigslist of all places... weirder and weirder.

From TPM cafe

Greg Sarget at TPM has great news.

Senate Majority Leader Steny Hoyer's office has obtained a letter that GOP Reps. John Shadegg and Peter Hoekstra sent out to House GOP colleagues about escalation. The letter gives GOP members pointers on how they should approach the battle over it on the House floor this week.

We are writing to urge you not to debate the Democratic Iraq resolution on their terms, but rather on ours.

Democrats want to force us to focus on defending the surge, making the case that it will work and explaining why the President's new Iraq policy is different from prior efforts and therefore justified.

We urge you to instead broaden the debate to the threat posed to Americans, the world, and all "unbelievers" by radical Islamists. We would further urge you to join us in educating the American people about the views of radical Islamists and the consequences of not defeating radical Islam in Iraq.

The debate should not be about the surge or its details. This debate should not even be about the Iraq war to date, mistakes that have been made, or whether we can, or cannot, win militarily. If we let Democrats force us into a debate on the surge or the current situation in Iraq, we lose.

They know they lost, yet they keep up the fighting, the real fighting and killing, for appearances sake.

And 'unbelievers' is a word that trips equally off the tongues of righteous Crusaders or Taliban elders.... whichever.

Mitt uses Bay Rum

Why not you?

On the morning that he announced for president, I bumped into him in the lounge of the Marriott and up close he is almost overpowering. He radiates vigor.

It attracts only teh best fluffers.

From BoingBoing

I hate these things, I always forget what I even wanted to ask about, I never ask for enough $ (this one I will change this time), and I'm nowhere near as good at reading people under those circumstances as I am normally.

That said, despite a (very) mild stutter, I interview real good. I have a track record of being offered work.

So fellow argonauts, wish me luck. It's time to end winter vacation

Kermit was so uncouth

I wonder what the Australian word for this is

Senator Obama waded into a major foreign policy row just one day after formally announcing his candidacy, telling Mr Howard he should dispatch 20,000 Australians to Iraq if he wanted to back up his comments.

"I think it's flattering that one of George Bush's allies on the other side of the world started attacking me the day after I announced [my candidacy]," Senator Obama said.

"I would also note that we have close to 140,000 troops in Iraq and my understanding is Mr Howard has deployed 1,400.

"So if he is...to fight the good fight in Iraq, I would suggest that he calls up another 20,000 Australians and sends them to Iraq, otherwise it's just a bunch of empty rhetoric."

perhaps "Word" is the word.

Be glad you never aired it, but be sad you ever made it

I am becoming happier and happier I chose the PuppyBowl.

UPDATED for context: This is an alternate (not aired) version, since vanished from their superbowl site - along with the rest of their superbowl site - because of this particular version.

Where to begin?

CARLSON: Now, it would seem to me, Tom, not to make a broad sweeping statement here, but a racially exclusive theology, a theology that ministers to one group of people, based on race, kind of contradicts the basic tenets of Christianity, and is worth talking about. Wouldn't you say?

CARLSON: However, it's the word before them, black. It's making them racially specific. Again, Christianity -- this is something that I am actually qualified to discuss -- is, it seems to me, almost explicitly anti-racial. The idea is that we are all equal in the eyes of God. And when you espouse a theology that is racially exclusive, as this appears to be, it's hard to call that Christianity. I think it's pretty easy to call it wrong.

This is so entertaining to watch.

"Christianity is almost explicitly anti-racial" really sums it up in a nutshell.

Early Friday AM

Feeling much better, thanks for the concern. Seems it's going around.

I watched Harold and Kumar go to White Castle last night for the first time. The sicky delerium made the extracurricular activities quite unnecessary.

Sicky Sicky Sick

I am so unwell today. Not on the verge of hospitalization, but not at all well.

Wish me luck, back soon.

UPDATE: 10 hours of sleep, (18 of last 24 hours) 1 bucket, some improvement.

I'm having a bunch of people over tomorrow for the game, and my biggest concern at this point is parking. I also need to fix the vacuum.

C'mon over, and bring some food to share!
