DRM? (link)

This is a funny technology story, in which Sony appears a sad loser, and in the process of losing even more sadly, manages to reduce choice for its own consumers, and limits it's own artists revenues as well.

granted, only one of those is news.

Aged Coffee - Celebes Kalossie Estate, 5yr.

According to the Dunkin'Donuts site:

Traditionally, coffee held in warehouses for several years, sometimes deliberately, sometimes inadvertently. Such aging reduces acidity and increases body.

Well, this stuff is NOT from DD.

Wikipedia:

Although it is still widely debated, certain types of green coffee are believed to improve with age; especially those that are valued for their low acidity, such as coffees from Indonesia or India. Several of these coffee producers sell coffee beans that have been aged for as long as 3 years, with some as long as 8 years.

However, most coffee experts agree that a green coffee peaks in flavor and freshness within one year of harvest.

This is honestly, one of the BEST cups i have ever had. Today is the day i am glad I befireded a new roaster. So SO good that I want to hide the beans in the freezer so I can always have one on other crappy, snow covered, disorienting mornings.

yes, the flavor is different, and the acid is reduced.

But I have never before had coffee calm me down, while turning me up, and I'm a unitarian, so that says something.

this cup was just in time to save my daylight today.

Dear rest of the world

As with everything worthwhile we Americans do, this will take a while. But rest assured, our head is finally coming out of our ass.

Sorry for the DeLay, we got bush-whacked.

When Bolton resigns the UN, please applaud.

The mark of fiction (link)

This is odd (ahem-cist) enough

Mexicans and stranded tourists, hungry and frustrated after a two-day beating by Hurricane Wilma, stood in line to buy supplies Sunday or simply raided grocery or furniture stores, dragging goods from shops ripped open by the storm.
As with Katrina coverage, the looters and the white people, i mean tourists, are different peoples. The photo caption says it well.

But this next part is suspect. Jayson Blair style impossible, the kind of BS that makes you want to undo the 30 seconds you spent at ABC news.
Others waited in long lines at the few stores that were open. Some American tourists without local currency offered $100 bills for $5 calling cards.
Wha? Maybe 'the hundred dollar bill waving american' needs to pop a lock, or perhaps he is a neurotic collector, because I'm confident the phones aren't working.

30 months is a drought

In an 8-month space station simulation on Earth in 2000, a Russian man twice tried to kiss a Canadian woman researcher just after two other Russians had gotten into a bloody brawl. As a result, locks were installed between the Russian and international crews' compartments.
Those Russians and their hands. good thing there weren't any Romans.

My reccomendation? Greeks bearing Trojans.

PULL

As a country, we have let out rope for 4 years and 37 days.

I believe they have fashioned it into a noose, and placed it around their own neck.

it is time to pull. all of us. at once.

(a blowjob never got anyone killed, nevermind 2,000 kids)

We deserve a better president.

And we deserve not to be lied to.

Evacuation ordered in Taunton; possible dam failure

TAUNTON (AP) -- Two-thousand people living near the Whittenden Dam in Taunton were evacuated this afternoon amid reports the dam may have structural problems.

The mayor also declared a state of emergency in the city.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch for portions of Bristol County because of the possible dam failure.

A nation of laws?

"But the fact of the matter is that when we were attacked on September 11, we had a choice to make. We could decide that the proximate cause was al-Qaeda and the people who flew those planes into buildings and, therefore, we would go after al-Qaeda and perhaps after the Taliban and then our work would be done and we would try to defend ourselves. Or we could take a bolder approach, which was to say that we had to go after the root causes of the kind of terrorism that was produced there, and that meant a different kind of Middle East. And there is no one who could have imagined a different kind of Middle East with Saddam Hussein still in power."

Condoleeza Rice, telling you that you were lied to.

What are the symptoms of bird flu in humans?

Symptoms of bird flu in humans have ranged from typical flu-like symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat and muscle aches) to eye infections, pneumonia, severe respiratory diseases (such as acute respiratory distress), and other severe and life-threatening complications. The symptoms of bird flu may depend on which virus caused the infection.

2 Questions

Wilma is the last on the list of storm names for 2005; there are 21 names on the yearly list because the letters q, u, x, y and z are skipped. If any other storms form, letters from the Greek alphabet will be used, starting with Alpha.
One, what happens if hurricaine Omega hits the south

Two, How many letters away is 'Omega'?

and, for good form, can I have your car?

Then you must be the horses sss!

You know any inescapably long hairy dog stories? The kind that when you stick them out - and you have just the temperment to enjoy the wait for the punchline - are entirely worthwhile, in the end.

Only in humor, only in the abstract, can the ends justify the means.

My vote? The Horses Head.
